April 20th Show

The show files are up on the podcast page.

This past weekend I had to attend a Funeral/Memorial service for one of my good friends Mother.  I pre-recorded the show because I was traveling to Indiana during my normal show time. Because of this there are two 24 1/2 minute segments instead of the usual 4 segments.

I apologize for not being able to take any calls live, if you have questions please save them for this week’s show or send them to my e-mail address at:

March 2013 TriggerTalk Article: Gun Ban Mania!

Last month I put off the writing about gun legislation.  The media was in a frenzy about the school shootings in CT, Diane Feinstein was threatening to introduce her Gun Ban plan for 2013, and New York Governor Cuomo was in a hurry to make New York State’s laws the toughest in the country.

I thought if I waited a month maybe some of this would sort itself out. Maybe there would be an honest look at some of the other contributors to not only these highly publicized multiple shootings, but also the routine violence we are seeing in cities like Detroit and Chicago.

Well here we are a month later; the President just took the opportunity during the “State of the Union” speech to campaign for gun control with a backdrop of supporters and victims, while you and I are again being treated like a Pariah, a scourge of society.

If it feels like every anti-gun person is jumping on the bandwagon, you are not wrong.  A review of media stories since the shooting in CT shows an 8 to 1 ratio of stories demonizing guns and gun owners; versus positive stories about firearms.

Almost daily, liberal lawmakers are introducing legislation hoping to make their new gun law tougher than the last. There are 157 types of guns banned and magazine capacities limits: first 10 rounds , then 7 now 5. One even suggested a magazine capacity of 1, a single round in the chamber and one in the mag effectively making the gun a “Two Shooter”.

Two Missouri state reps introduced legislation that would require gun owners to hand over “Assault Weapons” to the appropriate law enforcement agency within 90 days or become a felon. Similar bills are under consideration in a half dozen other states; although most are not likely to pass and would be challenged in court if they did pass.

With all rifles involved in only 3% of shootings, and so-called “Assault Weapons” in even less, why are they doing this? This number is less than the percentage of murders committed with hammers and other blunt objects.

The reason being that this action is a “first step.”  The 1994 Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) did nothing to lessen gun violence and neither would this one. However, there will be Anti-gun Liberal law makers on record as voting for this ban, and pro-gun Conservatives on record as voting it down.  The next time there is a horrific shooting, and there will be a next time, these votes will be trotted out along with all the usual array of victims and “experts” to hold the pro-gun people responsible.  This will continue until the real contributors to this violence are addressed.

Where is the legislation on mental health reporting and the effects of psychotropic drugs? Links between violence in movies, videos games and how they influence young people. How do we restore the positive family influence that teaches morals, responsibility and the value of life to a culture lacking respect for others?

Where is the crackdown on violent offenders that are let loose in society with little or no punishment? FBI data shows that Chicago had 1,893 shootings in 2012, and only 6% (116) were actually prosecuted for the crimes. That record is no deterrent at all; most of these shooters know they have almost no chance of being caught.

Recently William Lansdowne, San Diego Police Chief stated:

”If the lawmakers play it right, Americans can be completely disarmed within a generation”

There is no mistake, this is their intent. You are not to be trusted with firearms because they know what is best for you.

March 23rd Show

Great Show Saturday! -Show files are now up on the Podcast page

We had Internet callers from Danville, IL and Long Island New York:

John From Danville shared info on  his latest purchase, a Springfield Armory “Range Officer” Model 1911

Range Officer

Bill from Long Island paused to listen to the show on his way to the range. He  expressed concern with all the new regulations facing gun owners in New York.

We discussed with Bill NY Governor Cuomo’s handling of his new 7 round mag limitation and the fact that there are no 7 round mags available for most modern handguns. His is solution to have people “Promise” not to load more than 7 rounds in a ten round mag! I am sure the robbers, home invaders, mass murder’s and rapists will agree to that! Is he counting on honor among thieves?

American Heritage Girls in an air rifle class at Tri-County Sportsmen’s League

In the second segment, Gary Knechtel joined us to talk about American Heritage Girls, a scouting organization for girls. Faith based with strong support for the Outdoors, Patriotism Gary described an Air Rifle program that exposes your girls to the enjoyment of the shooting sports. Gary Also discussed his involvement with the local NRA organization and upcoming events.

Early in the show I mentioned the gross over reaction to firearms in this country and the attempt to demonize guns and gun owners.  In reference to an incident that occurred last week where a young boy was expelled  for biting his “Pop Tart” into the shape of a gun, I jokingly crafted a toaster pastry into a 7.62 Strawberry Assault Pastry with a 30 Sprinkle Mag.  The results of which can be seen below.

Please note that each Assault Pastry contains 205 calories so it should not be long before NY Mayor Bloomberg bans them for being dangerous as well as causing obesity.

We also talked about a father that took a picture of his proud son receiving a .22 Rifle for his 11th Birthday that he posted on his Facebook page prompting a visit from Child Protective Services to investigate a report that a child “may” have access to a gun and ammunition.

The stories  hit close to home when a caller from Chelsea describes a discussion the had with Ed the Chelsea Police Chief.  The “Chief” explained they would have to investigate if they had a similar report and would be justified in trying to determine what wrong with the child. Why did he bite his toaster pastry into the shape of a gun? Was there violence in his past? Is he being abused?

Perhaps the “Chief” can’t remember being a young boy and playing Cops and Robbers, or Cowboys and Indians?

What has happened to common sense in this Country?

P.S. it’s Sunday evening,  just got back from the range. A little cold and windy but was having fun sighting in a Red Dot on an AR at 100 yards and plinking at broken clays in the sand of the backstop. Used two mags that are veterans of Afghanistan,  Fired 60 rounds , boy that feels nice, but rationing the the 5.56 to the bare minimum to stay current.  Then off to the pistol range for a M1895 Nagant revolver action (yes I know it is an ugly gun). Next 50 rounds of .38 Special and 50 rounds or .357 Magnum in the S&W 586, topped off by 250 rounds of .22 on the steel plate racks.

What a fun afternoon!

Till next week, Safe Shooting!

An hour was just too short to talk about eveything I  planned for today’s show!  I will save the politics and gun legislation discussions for next week.

This week we talked about large bore revolvers, and fun shooting events.

Several listeners called to ask about “Women on Target”, a special women’s only event.

March 9th Show

The Podcasts for the March 9th show are up for your listening pleasure!

A busy week: the anti-gun people are out in full force with Diane Feinstein telling us that it is legal to hunt humans with high capacity mags and School systems expelling kids for biting their Pop Tarts into the shape of a gun.

What has happened to common sense in America?

A 17 year old is told to remove his Marine Corps shirt because it has an emblem showing  crossed rifles, and an 8 year old has to remove “Green Army Men” from his birthday cupcakes.

Have these anti-gun people gone mad? What threat to the other students is a Pop Tart, a T-Shirt with a Marine Corps Logo, or a 1 inch tall plastic “Army Man”?

Years ago we played “Cop and Robbers”, Cowboys and Indians” and we did not experience this sort of shootings. Perhaps it was because morals were taught and people respected other individuals and their rights. We did not have extremely violent movies and video games desensitizing people to senseless acts of violence.

I recall in Junior High School bringing a rifle stock into Industrial Arts (Shop) class to refinish the stock. Today the whole town would be in “lock down” because of a piece of wood that posed no threat to anyone.

Access to guns was much greater in the 50’s and 60″s. I couldn’t wait to get the new Sears Catalog to look at the guns that we could order and have delivered directly to our home. Today this is no longer possible, background checks and other requirements make it harder to buy firearms, yet these senseless shootings occur.

What has changed:

  • Lack of Morals,
  • Lack of Respect,
  • Lack of Family influence,
  • Lack of Training?
  • Lack of enforcement  for laws already on the books.

What is this new push for Gun Control really about?

On Saturday we took calls on handloading and ammunition availability. One caller was interested in the requirements for changing his address on a CPL license and a High Powershooter was concerned about a possible interaction between recoil and his implanted Defibrillator/Pacemaker
