Ruger, that bastion of American firearm manufacturing, announced on October 13, with public confirmation on October 14, that it will discontinue 19 handgun and rifle models. Some will cease production immediately, while others will be phased out by the end of 2026.

Here are the revolver models that will cease production immediately:

  • LCR
  • SP101
  • GP100
  • Bearcat

The following models will remain in production through the end of 2026:

  • SR1911
  • LC Carbine
  • PC Charger
  • PC Carbine
  • LC Charger
  • Redhawk
  • Super Redhawk
  • Blackhawk
  • Super Blackhawk
  • Single-Series revolvers
  • Vaquero
  • No. 1 rifles
  • 77-Series rifles
  • Hawkeye
  • Ruger Precision Rifle

I was all but blindsided when I read this list. My connection with Ruger goes back to the late 1970s, when I bought a .45 Colt Blackhawk. That purchase started my association with Ruger firearms.

I won’t bore you with my Ruger stories, but suffice it to say that I own, or have owned, several guns from both lists. I’m still processing this news.

At any rate, here’s what will remain in production into 2027.

First, the semi-auto pistols:

  • LCP family
  • RXM
  • MAX-9
  • Security-380
  • Security-9
  • Ruger 5.7
  • Mark IV
  • 22 Charger

As for revolvers, here’s what will continue to be made:

  • Wrangler
  • Super Wrangler (only .22 LR and Magnum… wow.)

Rifle production will include:

  • American Rifle
  • American Rimfire line
  • Ruger Precision Rimfire
  • Harrier
  • 10/22
  • Mini-14 models
