Tom from Northfield Township completed the testing about a month ago and I have finally completed the photography that will convey the results of his testing.
25 of the most popular Self Defense rounds available today were tested using the same protocol that was used with the .380 ACP, 40 S&W, and 9mm test that went befor them.
What became very clear is that performance of any given brand and projectile design is not the only or even them major factor in a successful positive terminal performance result.
Many of the projectiles are the same design that were found in their smaller caliber cousins, yet the performance was radically different.
Sporting a heavier and slower moving bullet several of the samples performed well or acceptable in the tissue only simulation, but failed to expand when faced with the bone simulation. In fact the majority of the rounds completely clogged their hollow point with material and did not expand at all. ONLY 4 of 25 rounds had any expansion when going through the Bone simulation test.
